DEAD by DAYLIGHT (SURVIVOR)

STATUS: open

a vortex of gnashing teeth unleashing preternatural screams that chilled the bone, turning marrow to pillars of ice. everyone had their part to play. no deviation. no hero play. just stick to the role you were assigned, don’t be something you’re not. and eddie munson was no hero.the song still hot in his blood, eddie was halfway to safety when he realized what was asked of him wasn’t enough. wheeler called it a hivemind: wound one, wound all. yet the demobats swarmed, their rubbery bodies pounding at the gates of his uncle’s twisted trailer with continuous ferocity. he was asked to be the distraction, he was asked to buy the trio time. they needed more.and eddie was determined to give it to them.his final moments were of triumph. a bloodsoaked gurgle deafened by the wings of living darkness. cylindrical mouths ripped flesh from rib, ligament from limb, and brought the stalwart survivor to his knees. overwhelmed the hellbound sky turned a watery shade of deep, deep burgundy as shadowy bodies plummeted, joining him on the tainted earth.in the arms of a friend, eddie met his end. all light and feeling faded into a fleeting sense of presence as an all encompassing numbness set in. an impregnable nothing reached out its an embrace and swallowed him whole.eddie never expected to open his eyes again. and when he did, he was out of the lair of one eldritch horror and into the clutches of another.

in the entity’s realm . . . eddie munson is a rambunctious survivor who never relinquished the recusant attitude he cultivated in hawkins. armed with his beloved warlock, he specializes in drawing killers away from his allies and into fruitless chases. with mortality rendered meaningless, pain and fear are a small price for getting in the way and frustrating his tormentors.a self-appointed cynic, eddie is aware that he’s been thrown into an endless cycle contrived to drain him till hopeless. his retort? his little hometown in indiana wasn’t any different. if principal higgins couldn’t get the hawkins reject to surrender, then the cthulhu-wanabe didn’t stand a chance. eddie never asked to be stolen from the grave, and with the scars of death’s failure now congealed on his body, he’s making the entity’s claim everybody else's problem.

chrissy, this is for you

“ it’s like . . . she was destined for an alternate dimension. ” forged on the drafting table of angeleno luthier bernie rico, eddie’s warlock remains his dauntless companion in the entity’s realm. to compensate for his lack of an amp ( or anything resembling equipment ), the metalhead positions himself in places that will naturally augment his music. although the intent is to coax the killer to him, any survivors in range of his music will have their own sounds dampened by the clash of an impromptu metal show.

the munson name

“ when the other dads were teaching their kids how to fish or play ball, my old man was teaching me how to hot-wire. ” between his questionable upbringing and experience as a part-time mechanic, eddie knows his way around a generator. he can work through them quickly or rig them to explode to draw the killer’s attention.

i wouldn't remember me either

“ so, uh, i did the thing that i do now, apparently. i ran. ” despite his unapologetic presentation, eddie is masterfully evasive. he can turn the strangest of spaces into effective hiding places without leaving a trail for the killer to follow. this, however, makes him extremely difficult for even his own allies to find. lingering guilt over chrissy's death continues to haunt him thus inaction can turn him perilously restless.

WORLD WAR II

STATUS: main plot contains affiliated blogs but is open to alterations
CURRENT ARCS: i - 1920 — 1941, ii - 1942 — 1945

the munson name was a curse in its backwoods cradle of hawkins, indiana. any son born under it is given a choice of two destinies: a lonely recluse or moral destitution. edward munson’s father fell squarely into the latter with a criminal record that convened all but a confirmed murder. as a young man, his father terrorized the town; no personal posessions could be clutched close enough, no locked door sturdy enough, and no window stiff enough to keep the munson’s bad blood from economizing off his neighbors.by 1917, munson wore thin the town’s patience. to avoid retribution, he joined the army and was deployed to europe in the final throes of the great war. munson returned to hawkins late november of the following year. hawkins was gripped by fear of the deadly influenza ravaging its way through america. in response, much of the town battened down its employment hatches. and with just about every denizen counted among munson’s victims, no one showed any leniency upon his return. jobless and stripped of war’s legal outlet for his violent tendencies, munson returned to his old niche of town terror.during the roar of the twenties, daily life was becoming commodified. foods that once easily perished could now be safely kept in a refrigerator which saved money and provided convenience. affordable cars made it possible to commute daily between a peaceful home and a high paying job in the city. all thanks to the all-mighty credit that gave the average american the illusion of purchasing power. the boom of the bourgeoisie was magnanimous to those who could afford this new, mouthwatering affluency. for others, the upsurge only served to widen the gap between the haves and the never-coulds.edward “eddie” munson entered the world during this unrivaled cultural and economic growth, but not to a branch that delighted in this flourish of material fruit. no, his was a lopsided, twisted thing that drooped towards the soil. his mother was a misnomer while his father was a jobless, part-time vagrant who willfully struggled to find and hold a job.tender years were shaped by a father’s tyranny. the older munson bestowed upon his son the talent of thieving and fighting while punishing any behavior a bloated sense of manhood objected to. he kept the boy’s hair cropped and committed the butchering himself thus leaving eddie’s scalp horribly scabbed. from an early age, eddie was forced to steal; his father would send him on errands with no money or not enough, forcing the boy to get creative to avoid a beating. and because of a severe lack of consistent meals, eddie didn’t shy from pocketing scraps for himself, though he kept these treats a secret as anything viewed as out of line would straightened by his father’s wrath.hawkinites never questioned the boy’s dogged appearance or his burgeoning behavior. it was expected. the child was a munson and apples never fell far from trees. the only soul to harbor eddie’s wellbeing was his paternal uncle wayne, a despondent bachelor with a sequestered heart who loved his nephew as if the boy was his own. despite his melancholic nature, wayne never shied from

speaking up on eddie’s behalf. his brother responded to any advice with guarded heat. but eddie wasn’t blind to his uncle’s concern. affection was mutual between them, and any reason to spend more time with his uncle was one eddie savored.an already stringent life was wrung emaciated after the stock market collapsed in the fall of ‘29. by summer, earning money became herculean for eddie’s father and he was forced to leave the state to put food on the table without a prison sentence as the entree. he left eddie in wayne’s care and put indiana behind him. for several months, eddie received trimmings of his father’s newfound wages. but by september, the scraps stopped completely.well aware of his brother's lenient scruples, wayne wasn’t surprised by his brother’s betrayal. what hurt that man was to discover that neither was eddie.as the economic drought deepened, wayne was forced to seek opportunity elsewhere to support his adolescent nephew. rather than risk losing his uncle, eddie eagerly went with him. by 1931, both munsons were migrant workers, traveling by track and by foot in search of any means to make money.there was no chance for formal schooling when opportunity dried up in one place and shooed laborers back on the road. to compensate, eddie educated himself with any book he could get his grime-caked hands on and considered any other parties joined with impromptu teachers. he listened intently to stories exchanged over bowls of hoover stew and volunteered a helping hand to master new skills. as a thank you, eddie made a habit of becoming a rather rambunctious nanny for the younger kids present.it was during this leg of his short life where eddie discovered his love of music. musicians who filled the evenings with songs of better days and harder nights stirred an ambition in the young munson. his eyes locked on the callous hands as their fingers jumped from string to string or measured out beat by beat.amused by eddie’s interest, a guitarist traveling with his brother took a shine to the boy. eddie developed a kinship with the man, always stealing a seat beside him as he played, fingering along on an invisible instrument. the musician even relinquished his guitar to eddie a few times and was impressed by just how fast the young munson learned. despite his perpetual cough and weak constitution, the musician devoted every ounce of spare time to teaching eddie how to play guitar.but good things during an era draped in depression have a funny way of furthering tragedy. eddie kept no illusions that his new teacher and he would always walk the same road. they were bound to part ways, but eddie didn’t expect it to happen during the brevity of a single night. a sudden coldsnap, that only nudged eddie a little deeper into his moth-banquet blanket, killed the musician in his sleep. as the man had no children of his own, his brother believed it only fitting that eddie inherit the guitar.with strings of his own, the young munson nurtured his talent however he could. from border blues to western swing, eddie collected inspiration

and met every new musician like a harvard lecturer. over the years, he culminated his own style. by the end of the ‘30s, the inspiring musician would name t-bone walker and sister rosetta tharpe as his biggest influences.despite being musically talented, his livelihood didn’t lend itself to opportunity. instead, it remained a passion that he diligently practiced while other faculties of his lent themselves to his earnings. like wayne, eddie was a deft hand with machinery. farm equipment, automobiles, there was nothing the munsons couldn’t diagnose. the talent caught the attention of potential employers who wanted the two men as both physical laborers and mechanics. with the sweltering popularity of automobiles, the demand for the munsons’ abilities negotiated competitive wages.eddie chose to pursue his knack, turn it into a career that allowed him to jump from one good offer to an even better one. his first steady position was under the banner of lando calrissian ( scoundrvls ). the young man’s work with calrissian was his first taste of nepotism. while eddie earned his keep with his technique, he was invited to the position because of his boyhood friendship with the motley solos.the solo matriarch ( alderheir )was a senator and the heir of a prestigious political lineage back east, but the opinions she kept were downright rebellious for her station as were her actions. in a scandalous twist, she married a california-born scoundrel ( lionthought ) and happily kept the company of his friends ( honorhunt & commandsir ). as a mother, she kept her kids similarly humble and it was during such a venture eddie met ben ( aniimvs ).benjamin solo and his sister jaina ( yunharlaquin ) were volunteering in a relief effort when crossed paths with them. the boys became fast friends under the joint interests in the macabre and the mechanical. it was a friendship that would persist as eddie became a presence ben could drift on his comet to as the senator’s son had a terrible time staying still.their camaraderie would bring eddie to lando before taking him to the air force. his dexterous notoriety earned the young munson privileges others could only dream of — such as his stubborn reluctance to adhere his grooming to military standards, an atrocity his superiors barely tolerated.eddie, jaina, and ben started the war across separate seas but would be reunited after ben’s reassignment to rogue squadron, a prestigious cadre of aces brought together to rain havoc over the axis. as the squadron’s favored mechanic, eddie works closely with the siblings and their celebrated colleagues. his reputable position, however, isn’t enough to cork his spirited display.with his guitar and sketchbook crossing the atlantic with him, the young munson remained unapologetically true to himself in the face of the dark expectations of war. outside of rogue squadron, it was a bitter reckoning when a plane he knew by scratch and gasket failed to come home. eddie entertained no doubts that he’d taste heartbreak in the theater of a global war, but he didn’t expect one to come with a pair of sad eyes and sweet smile never meant for him ( greenscrunchy ).
